Family Opportunity Act : In-patient Psychiatric Home and Community Based Waiver Demonstrations
The Family Opportunity Act, which passed as part of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, created a program for states to apply for funding for home and community-based services to support families with children and youth correctly receiving care in inpatient psychiatric treatment facilities. Several states have applied for funding to strengthen these services. The states are continuing to take important steps to deinstitutionalize children and youth who might be able to receive care in the home and in their communities. These states include: Alaska, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Montana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Virginia.
