Feds issue Language Access Assessment and Planning Tool for Federally Conducted and Federally Assisted Programs
The Interagency Working Group on Limited English Proficiency (LEP), led by the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section of the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice, has issued a Language Access Assessment and Planning Tool for Federally Conducted and Federally Assisted Programs (Assessment Tool). The Assessment Tool assists entities to receive federal financial assistance and federal agencies to comply with the language access requirements of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, its implementing regulations, and Executive Order 13166.
The Assessment Tool, accessible at http://www.lep.gov/resources/2011_Language_Access_Assessment_and_Planning_Tool.pdf, helps Agencies evaluate its current language access program and helps practitioners develop, assess, and improve policies, plans, and procedures to ensure effective communication at all points of contact between LEP individuals and the agency.
The Workgroup believes this Assessment Tool should serve useful to ensuring that government programs and services are available and accessible to the LEP community.
