January 20 Washington Update
Greetings from Washington. As Congress is out of session, this update will be focused entirely on the Menendez-Pallone legislation to extend federal funding for Family-to-Family Health Information Centers (F2Fs).
Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ) are planning to introduce identical bills in the Senate and House to extend F2F funding through FY 2015. The hope is that the F2F legislation will be included in the larger "extenders" bill currently being negotiated by a House-Senate conference committee. (If an agreement is reached, that legislation will extend the two-month payroll tax holiday, unemployment insurance and the Medicare payment "doc fix" until the end of the year.)
The extenders bill will be finished by the end of February, so time is of the essence!
To achieve the goal of getting the F2F provision in the extenders bill, all of you who appreciate the importance of F2Fs will need to help educate the conferees and other key Members of Congress about the importance of F2F services to CYSHCN and their families.
If you have received help from an F2F, your story would be very valuable in our efforts to keep the F2Fs up and running.
