January 27 Washington Update
Greetings from Washington. Once again, this report will focus on legislation to get Family-to-Family Health Information Centers funded beyond FY 2012.
As explained previously, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) plan to introduce legislation to extend funding for F2Fs through FY 2015 at the current level of $5 million per year. It is our hope that we can get this legislation incorporated into the must-pass "extenders" bill under negotiation to extend the payroll-tax holiday and a number of other tax and Medicare provisions.
To achieve the goal of getting the F2F provision in the extenders bill, all of you who appreciate the importance of F2Fs will need to help educate key Members of Congress about the importance of F2F services to CYSHCN and their families. Since the extenders bill will likely be enacted by the end of February, time is of the essence!
If you have received help from an F2F, your story would be extremely valuable in efforts to keep the F2Fs up and running. If you are a health care provider or are associated with another organization that works with an F2F, your testimonial can be extremely helpful too.
For information about how you can help to ensure the continuation of F2Fs, please contact Janis Guerney or Brooke Lehmann, Family Voices Public Policy Co-Directors. Thanks!
