Family Voices Interim Leadership Team (ILT) Appointed for July-December, 2012


In January of 2012, Family Voices' Executive Director Dr. Sophie Arao-Nguyen announced her plan to step out of this position by the end of June, 2012. Family Voices' Executive Search Committee is currently in the process of finding the right candidate to succeed Sophie. Since the search process is still underway, the Family Voices Board of Directors asked Sophie to stay on as Interim Executive Director and she accepted. Sophie was tasked with forming an Interim Leadership Team (ILT), including the hiring of two consultants to assist her in providing executive oversight starting July, 2012.

The ILT has now been formed. Sophie Arao-Nguyen will work part-time from home as Interim Executive Director and will be on call during this interim period.  Effective July 2, she will hire Rachel Rodriguez, former Deputy Director, and Karen Anzola, former Co-Director of the National Center for Family and Professional Partnership, as consultants for 10 hours each per week. Sophie, Rachel, and Karen will all provide program oversight so that when one or more of them is on vacation or otherwise unavailable, there will always be at least one person tasked with responding to program needs quickly when they arise. 

Sophie Arao-Nguyen will:
- Work with the Board of Directors
- Coordinate the ILT
- Work with the Policy Committee
- Sign checks and contracts for the organization as needed
- Continue to be the Principal Investigator for contracts with funders
- Together with Rachel Rodriguez and Karen Anzola, oversee program implementation

Rachel Rodriguez will:
- Continue providing support to the Executive Search Committee
- Oversee administrative activities other than check signing
- Together with Sophie Arao-Nguyen and Karen Anzola, oversee program implementation

Karen Anzola will:
- Continue providing support to the Executive Search Committee
- Oversee infrastructure activities
- Together with Sophie Arao-Nguyen and Rachel Rodriguez, oversee program implementation

The ILT will meet via conference call once a week (or as needed) to discuss issues that arise, brainstorm possible solutions, and do troubleshooting when needed.

Lacey Keene, the Director of Finance and Administration, will provide oversight to the operations of the national office in Albuquerque.  Sophie will continue to supervise Melanie Rubin, the Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives, Lacey Keene, Director of Finance and Administration, and Nora Wells, the Director of Programs.
