Family Voices Washington DC Update: September 13, 2017


When we left off with the last Update - just before the congressional recess - the Senate had just rejected various versions of legislation to repeal and replace much of the Affordable Care Act and turn Medicaid into a block grant program. At this point, there are still lingering efforts to "repeal and replace" while there are also new efforts to create bipartisan legislation to stabilize the individual insurance marketplace. Federal CHIP funding ends on September 30, so child health advocates are pushing Congress to extend funding before states must start issuing termination notices. The Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee just announced that they reached an agreement for a 5-year extension. The administration has reduced ACA navigator grants and announced plans to reduce outreach before the next ACA open-enrollment period, which begins November 1.
