The Family Voices 15th Anniversary Gala Celebration and National Conference is a little over a month away, and we're getting excited! The Gala will be an opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that you and others have accomplished -- and continue to accomplish -- on behalf of families and children and youth with special health care needs.
Delicious food, an elegant setting (the Decatur House), exciting Lifetime Achievement honorees (former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, Merle McPherson, and Thomas Tauke), and wonderful entertainment from Jana Stanfield (check her out at www.janastanfield.com) make this an event you won’t want to miss!
An exciting and informative National Conference has been planned with opportunities to meet with veteran and emerging family and youth leaders and national and state partners from across the country, and to gain new understanding of current critical issues including Medicaid policy, information technology, family-centered care, quality assurance, wellness, transition, youth perspective, cultural competence and much more. If you have not already done so, MAKE PLANS NOW to join us in Washington, DC, May 23-26, 2007 for the Family Voices National Conference. You’ll be glad you did! Hold Your Breath—A Journey into Cross Cultural Medicine
A new documentary, "Hold Your Breath," supported in part by The Commonwealth Fund, will air on select public television stations this month. Directed by award-winning filmmaker and physician Maren Grainger-Monsen, the film reveals the clash between ancient Islamic traditions and contemporary Western medicine. It follows a deeply religious Muslim immigrant from Afghanistan with cancer and his Western medical doctor as they try to find a common language while there is still time to provide potentially life-saving treatment. Khalid Hosseini, author of the New York Times bestseller, The Kite Runner, writes, “This film is a lovely and moving meditation on the clash between religion, culture, and modern medicine.” For more information and for broadcast times, visit the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics Web site.
